Re-opening Excel 2007 files

When I have updated an Excel 2007 file, save and close it, then try to
re-open it immediatley afterwards, I receive a message saying that the file
is being used by "another user", even though I am the only one using the
file. It takes about 10 minutes before I am able to re-open the file. Any
ideas?

Where is the file located, physically, and IS there an anti-virus
scanner involved?

The file is located on our network drive, and yes, there is anti-virus
scanning.

Then I suspect that may be interfering with the network drive filesystem
locking system. Disable scanning that drive.
