Re-pagination

I have a folder with 19 separate files. I want to start
with page one of ___ in each file.

For some reason (and they do not appear to be linked
files) the pages remain consecutive no matter what I try.

Example:

Division One - Pages 1 - 3
Division Two - Pages 4 - 7

Unfortunately when I open Division Two it shows Page 4.
When I try to change it to Page 1 by resetting the page
#'s it reverts back to Page 4.

This carries through all 19 files and I end up with
consecutive pages to about 65 as a total.

There must be something to uncheck somewhere but I haven't
found it!

Hi Barbara

Open one of the later files, go to header and footer view, and select the
page number. Then choose 'toggle field codes' from the right click menu.

If you have a straightforward page number it will show {PAGE}. However, I
suspect someone has set this up as a more complicated field to add on the
number from the preceding file. If you no longer want this, just replace
with an ordinary page number field from the H&F toolbar.

Same thing for the total number of pages ({NUMPAGES}).

Thanks Margaret...I tried your suggestion but
unfortunately that didn't do it either.

When I toggled the field code it did show {PAGE}
suggesting it was o.k. but when I went to the H&F toolbar
to replace with an ordinary page number it didn't allow
the change.

Are you using some kind of third-party software that might be controlling
the document formatting?

Not that I'm aware of. The Word files were here before I
started so I don't know where they came from, etc.

The person who uses the files now wants to change from the
consecutive paging throught the 19 files to sequential
paging within each file.

As far as I know these are simply Microsoft Word
Documents. Nothing I can see tells me there is another
software involved.

I figured it out!!!

1. View Footer
2. Format Page #
3. Page Numbering
4. Depress button: "Start Number At": 1

Thanks to all who participated in my "event"....
