Time to get into the shapesheet.
If you open the shapesheet for the shape, you will find a Protection Section
and some of the cells should be non zero. Take note of the cells so that
they can be restored and then set the values to zero. Since it is a group
shape, you may have to repeat the process fot hte shapesheets for the other
component shapes.
Though ungrouping seems like an easy option, the process is not always
reversible. When shapes are grouped, a new shape is created. This new shape
can be modified to include any of the features of a standard shape and any
of the components can refer to this shape. When the shape is ungrouped, this
new shape is deleted and all these new features and references will be lost.
So avoid ungrouping at all cost.

Common Visio Questions http://www.mvps.org/visio/common_questions.htm
selected individual components of an object and used the Shape -> Send to
Back function to hide the unwanted component(s). The issue I am having now
is that when I select a component of an object and try to delete or
otherwise edit the component, I am presented with the following message:
individual components, but when I attempt to ungroup the components, I get
the message above. I am trying to copy just one of the individual
components to be used on another object. Any help is greatly appreciated,
the help files have pointed me to the Protection and Layer features, but on
these objects there are no layers defined and all of the available
Protection options are unchecked.
