Read and Dictate

Ted

I have been told that Word includes the ability to read to you, and also to
take dictation. In other words to translate print to speech and speech to
print.

I can't find it. I do find the word "speech" on one of the menues but get
an error message when I click on it.

I'd appreciate any info. Being visually impaired, these functions would be
important to me.

Thanks!
Ted

Hi Ted,

In Office XP Word has some ability to type via
dictation, but the readback ability comes either
from having Windows XP, which provides that feature
in the Accessibility options in the Windows Control Panel
or by using the Excel 2002 feature and some macros
to have it work in Word. These are some MS articles on
the speech features:

There are also 3rd party speech products that can work
with Office or other Windows apps that may be a better
choice for you. Some have been around and matured a bit more.

What is the error message that you get in Word 2002?
Was the speech (alternative input) feature installed
and trained?
