Read only .doc files

Hi,

My colleague uses still Word97. She got a .doc file created
in Word2003. The file is equipped with any macro.

When she opens the file setting the macro on, everything is OK.
But when she opens the file setting the macro off, the file becomes
read only.

Is that normal?
