Read-Only Documents in MS Word

R

Rob Nix

A number of my documents are forms (where modifying the
form is password protected) that open as read-only. The
problem I have is that I cannot open the document by
clicking "read-only". All I get is a grey screen. So, I
have to type in the 'modifying' password, then it opens,
and I can edit it. The sofware in use is Word'97 and
Windows XP.

If these are forms with form fields, they should be protected for forms
(Tools | Protect Document) instead of being protected with a password to
modify (Tools | Macro | Security).
