Read only documents won't open!

Hi,

I'm having a trouble with MS Word for Mac: 2004. Every time I go to open a Read-only document, when I click "read-only" it only opens a blank document instead of the actual file. I know that the files are not corrupt because they will open on other computers. I am running Leopard and have MS Word 11.3.5 installed. Someone else tried reinstalling Office (I'm not sure whether they did a full uninstall then reinstall or just reinstalled over the top of the existing files - which I know would not help the problem). I think before the reinstall it was happening while on v11.3.8 (but i'm not positive about this). I have tried repairing disk permissions (twice).

Is there anything else anyone can suggest? I really need to be able to open Read-only documents for work.

Thanks,

Chrissy

Hi Chrissy -

First & foremost, make sure you get Office back up to the current build
level 11.3.5 ain't it:) The current level is 11.3.9 and as long as you can
launch any of the Office programs you can just go to its Help menu & select
Check for Updates. Allow the complete updating to take place. Also, be sure
you have Leopard updated as well - 10.5.1 is where it should be. After any
updates repair permissions again, then restart the Mac. If the problem isn't
resolved come back in detail.
