A client of mine is trying to import data into Access.
The data is in a database that he purchased from a state
department of corrections for use in his business. There
are approximately 200,000 records in the database and the
data is delimited wiht a ~. When looking at the database
file in Windows Explorer, there is no file extension and
the file is of type "File." When my client attempts to
import the data into Access, the import Wizard begins and,
when first trying to locate the data, my client simply
types the filename in and the Wizard is able to find the
database file and continue on, showing him the field
names, etc. At the very end of the import process,
however, when my client clicks "Finish," he gets an error
message saying "Cannot Update. Database or object is read-
only." He has made sure that the database he's trying to
import from is not read-only. By the way, when he imports
the data into Excel, it imports successfully except that
only 65,500+ records get imported; an Excel spreadsheet
apparently can't contain more than that. Can anyone
please offer an explanation or solution as to why Access
is saying it can't import the data? Many thanks.
