Read only file

My excel workbook became a read only file, locked for
editing. This was not done on purpose. How do I get it
back to where I can again use it? None of the
conventional methods have worked. Thanks for the help

Is this the only workbook that has become 'locked' or are they all this way?
If so, it means that you're running XP (or a later release of 2000) and
haven't activated within the requisite 50 uses.

This may sound wierd, but try opening it in Word. I've
had users open an excel doc. in Word and then try to save
it and it makes the excel doc a read only file. If it
opens in Word then copy and paste it back into Excel. It
may mess up some of your formulas, but at least you have
the data.
