Read-only file

When a file is created in MS Word on a Windows XP Pro computer and then
passed onto other user who is also using same configuration, the file is
opened in read-only need to save as a new file for any editing. In the past
when we use Windows 98 and ME, there is no such issue. Can someone advise
the fix to this issue.

Thanks,

If it is passed on to another user by cd, it will be read only.. open the
file and then resave to the hard drive..

It was passed to me on my shared folder on the network. I need to resave it
to get the right to edit it. This is not the way we operate when we were
using Windows 98 and Me. Thus, it seems there is something new in Windows
XP Pro I guess.

Kelly,

I do not believe the problem falls into Word application and likely to be
the Windows XP Pro issue since we upgraded to Windows XP Pro recently but
not MS Office.
