read-only linked tables

Erik

I have a database that is used by many employees. I want
to prevent them from being able to modify data on a linked
table that is housed in another Access Database. Is there
a way to make the linked table read only?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I am trying to do some of the same things.
I have tired putting the original database and table in a
folder that the shared users have READ ONLY permissions
too. You have to make sure that the link is the correct
path. THen the database file that they are using is in a
a folder they have Write priveldges to.

You can create a query that links to another database. Then either set the
query to a Totals query or create a one record table and add the table to
your query. You can make the table hidden if you want so they only see the
query. If the user's find their way around this very simple security, you
may need to implement Access Security.
