Read-only prompt on Open... from PWA

You can select multiple projects in Project Center and click on Open... to
create a consolidated file. When selecting 10 or more projects, a prompt
comes up giving you the option to open the projects read-write or read-only.

When you select less than 10 projects, the prompt doesn't pop up, and it
opens up the files read-write.

Is there a way to set it so that PWA prompts you on any number of files,
even one project, whether to open read-write or read-only?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

There's no way to set this option. If you wish to create a master project
with the subprojects as Read-Only, I would suggest you do this in the
Microsoft Project client by opening a new blank project, clicking Insert -
Project, selecting a project, and then clicking the "Read only to view"
option. You will need to repeat this process for each project you select.
Hope this helps.

The system prompts you because if you go read/write, you end up loading a
lot more data than read only, and thus save yourself some performance
frustration. There's no way to change the system behavior or the prompt
threshold.

Thanks for the info. I was afraid that was the case. I load as many as
60-80 projects in a consolidated file, so the project-by-project method is
not an option for me. The PWA method is much easier to load a consolidated
file.

Anyhow, It's good to know, though, what I can or can't do.

The reason this came up was a department head in our company wanted to
generate some reports on a few (less than 10) projects. We were wondering
why PWA didn't give him the read-only option. I'll direct him to get in and
out quickly so that he doesn't have the projects checked out for too long or
to load the files read-only via MS Project Insert.
