Read Only

Phillip D Edwards

Hi All

Microsoft Word 2000 opens all my documents as read only , when I try opening
them from windows explorer or a short cut pointing to my documents. If I
open the files from word they open correctly. Does anyone know why this is
happening.

Thanks
Phil

Phil,

Check for a read-only switch in the Windows Explorer
folder options dialog for opening Word documents. Change
it to "/n"

From Windows Explorer click,

View | Folder Options | File Types: scroll to Microsoft
Word Document, and select Edit. Selet Open for the Action
item, and click Edit. Check and change the switch there
used for opening the file.

Does a read-only startup switch for Word exist? I can't
find it, even not in the list of undocumented command line
options in the MS knowledge base. This would be usefull
to add a "Open read-only" right-click option for Word
documents in Explorer.
