read only

I recently purchased an Imac G5 with Tiger. I also puchased Microsoft
Word 2004. I loaded my files from school which was on a Windows
computer. The files will only come up as a read only file. I know I
can resave the file but have a large number of files,

This isn't a Word issue. It has something to do with how you transferred the
files. For instance, if you dragged them off a CD, they may have carried
the read-only property with them, as everything on a CD is read-only.

Select a file's icon in the Finder, do a Get Info (cmd-I), and go down to
Ownership and Permissions, and set it to Read and Write.

I know you can change a bunch of files this way at once, but can't remember
whether you do it by changing the containing folder, or by selecting all the
files and getting a single Info window. You may need to experiment.
