I have been working on a macro-enabled document at work using Word
2000 on Windows 2000. Everything works fine there.
When I take the document home to test it out with Word 97 on Windows
98, for some reason the document will only open as read-only,
requiring it to be saved under a different filename, even though the
file properties show the read-only box unchecked. (I brought the
document home using a CD-RW and verified that just in case.)
When the document is saved under a different filename and then closed,
the same thing happens with the renamed document when it is opened.
Bringing the renamed document back to work, it opens normally on
W2000.
I have checked for macro viruses in the document and normal.dot and
don't see any (unless they can be hidden in VBA's project explorer).
Regardless of whether there is a virus or not, opening the document
with macros-disabled still opens the document as read-only. Also, I
checked to ensure that Normal.dot is not read-only.
I have exported the macros, did a DOC->RTF->DOC conversion, and
reimported the macros and the problem still exists. I have also moved
the macros to a new document and that doesn't work either. There's
nothing in the macros that tells the document to be read-only.
Now, another macro-enabled document I wrote at home is also having the
same problem.
None of these document have any code that causes the document to
become read-only. Anyone know what's up?
