readability of files

I'm having two problems since I installed Microsoft for Mac 2008. The first is that other computers cannot read/ recognise my .ppt or .doc files (they were always able to do so previously with earlier versions of word & powerpoint).

The second is the default settings - in word, the default language reverts to US English no matter what I do - and in Powerpoint the font sizes jump all over the place even after repeated master file settings.

Help please.

What version of PowerPoint are the other computers using? Note that the
main Office 2008 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) now use the new
Office Open XML file format (docx, xlsx, pptx) that is not readable by
previous versions of Office for Mac like 2004, X, etc. To ensure that the
files work on older machines, when you go to "save as", select the
"Microsoft PowerPoint 97 - 2004 Presentation (.ppt)" format. For Word,
choose "Microsoft Word 97 - 2004 Document (.doc)" format.

For the default language in Word, set it by going to Tools > Language,
selecting the desired language, and clicking the "Default" button.
