Reading and Writing to COM ports

I am trying to write the values of Excel cells through a serial COM por
to another application continuously as long as the excel file is open.
also need to write a DDE command to Excel to activate Excel to turn o
or off a device. Is this possible and how do I do this. Any help wil
be appreciated
