Reading Pane and macro virus

In earlier versions of Outlook, rumor was that with preview pane on you were
more open to macro viruses so we shut off preview pane. In Outlook 2003 we
now have the reading pane option. Has security improved or is this just
another feature that if used we open ourselfs up to macro born viruses?
Since Outlook forms use macros, disabling macros is really not an option.

Thanks

No, you do not need to turn off the Reading Pane for that. It is not
possible to execute code in the Reading Pane. The same is true for Outlook
2002. There has been a security update for this for previous versions of
Outlook.

Active content cannot run in the Outlook 2003 Reading Pane.
