Strangely enough my problem seems to be the exact opposite of most of the
reading pane questions I've read here...
I am running Outlook 2003 on Windows XP Media Center Edition.
I'm trying to set up Outlook so that the Reading Pane is arranged on the
right for most mail folders, yet is arranged on the bottom (ie. 'classic'
style) for certain special folders. All Microsoft documentation I can find
suggests that the reading pane setting is saved on a per-folder basis, so in
theory this should be easy for me to set up...
This doesn't seem to be the case for me though - whatever setting I choose
(for one folder) from the View > Reading Pane menu is remembered and applied
across every mail folder I view.
I've even tried experimenting with creating a custom view (View > Arrange >
Current View > Customize/Define Views (> Other Settings). Although Outlook
remembers to use the custom view settings for specific folders, whatever
reading pane setting I pick in the custom view (right/bottom/off) then
becomes the global default for all folders, even those using the normal
"Messages" view.
What Google tells me is that most people are looking for a global reading
pane setting in Outlook 2003... Ironically, I seem to have a global setting
and I want to turn it off! Does anyone have any ideas on how I can achieve
this? Thanks in advance...
