Reading Text in Visio Diagrams

I use Visio fairly regularly to diagram relationships and processes.

I was curious if it was possible, in visio, to read and output text from,
say, a shape or a connector. If so, is there a way to discern between
different types of shapes, connectors etc?

Any help is appreciated
