Good morning,

I'm new in the MS project world and I'm not english speaker so I try t
exply myself as well as I can (If you see any grammar or vocabular
error say it to me please).

We have a problem in our company and it's that they are some project
created but they are 'only read' documents. We are the administrator
but we don't know how to unlock de files to allow their modification t
the other users.
In Tools->Options->Secutiry there isn't a tick to allow the acces o
convert it into write and read document.

Thank you for your reading.

Best regards

Are these projects standalone files or are you using Project Server?

If you are not using Project Server, it may be the case that they have
been locked by the OS. Try navigating to the files, right clicking on
them and checking to see if they are read only.

Alternatively, is it the case that they are asking for a password in
order to grant read-write access? In that case, you will find it
difficult without the right password.

Thank you for responding Dave,

We are using Project Server and the file doesn't ask us for a passwor
to write in the file. may be there is a problem with the authorizations
I have administrator status but I still can't write in them.

Best regards.

I can't edit my post so I'll do a new one.

My boss said to me that the problem is when you save the fil
protected, because if it is unprotected may be there are problems wit
sincronizations with other users. We have the password but the fil
doesn't asks for it, it opens in onlyread mode

Generally speaking in a server environment, if you can only open a file
in read-only mode, that is because it is open by another user or another
user's session has ended uncleanly and a 'forced' check-in has to take
place.

Ask on microsoft.public.project.server for the best advice on this.

Thank you very much for your replies!

I found a system to recover the file's control, and I'll post it:

Re-create a whole new file from the corrupted/bloated file:

1. Open a new blank project file without a project summary task.
2. Go to Insert/Project and insert the problem file.
3. Select the first task which will be the insertion point summar
line.
4. Go to Project/Task Information/Advanced tab.
5. Uncheck the "Link to Project" button and hit "OK".
6. If the file isn't already expanded, expand it.
7. Select all tasks below the top level summary line.
8. Outdent the selected tasks. (esto no sé lo que significa y n
aparece en el diccionario, lo que he hecho ha sido copiar y mandarlo
otro documento Nuevo)
9. Delete the first task which previously was a summary line.
10. Save the resulting file
