My laptop crashed so I had to buy a new one. How do I reassign the software
license so I can register Office 2007 on my new laptop without having to
purchase Office again?

If your Office 2007 is pre-installed OEM, it is gone with the old computer.

If your Office 2007 is a retail purhase, install on your new computer and
activate. If you have a problem activating, you will be provided with a
Microsoft number to call and explain the problem. If your Office 2007 is a
upgrade, you will need a Office 2007 qualifying product to install. The
qualifying product does not nee to be installed in your new computer. Note,
if your qualifying product is a prior version of Office, the qualifying
product can be OEM, retail or upgrade as long as the version of Office you
have is on the qualifyng product list.

And, importantly, you first uninstal any Trial edition & Activation
assistant, reboot, prior to installing your paid for version
