Rebuild succeeds, but Entourage cannot access data

G

Gregory Harrison

I am running Entourage 2008, version 12.1.5(081119), on MacOS X, version
10.5.6. My Entourage database is approximately 3.5G.

I have email messages in my Inbox that won't delete. After many Google
searches, and many attempts at rebuilding the database, I am no further in
solving this problem than I was at the beginning.

I can successfully rebuild my database. No errors are received. However,
after I rebuild, and subsequently attempt to start Entourage, I receive the
"Entourage cannot access your data. Try rebuilding your database" dialog.
Reverting back to the original does allow me to start Entourage, but that
does not solve the problem.

I don't know where to turn next -- any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

As you have found out rebuild is not always successful. As long as you can
open your database, you can salvage your data. You need to create a new
Identity and import your data. You cannot directly import from a same
version Identity. You will have to select one of the options to export. The
Entourage archive (.rge) file is the quickest and easiest, but if there is
corruption, the export will fail. You would then need to try the MBOX
method. This too can fail then this is where it starts to get time intensive
where you try to locate the bad message(s) to delete so you can export.

How to manually move your data. (when import fails and/or you need to move
to a new Identity same version or revert to an older version)

I work as a consultant with users so if you have trouble and need some extra
help I'm very reasonable. Still need help? Send me an email: select the paid
option Private Consulting Services. I'll do my best to help you on the
newsgroup, but sometimes I can't teach you everything you need to know in
order to do this.
