Recalculate key

Hi,

I'm new to using the MAC Excel version. I want to highlight a portion of a
formula and press F9 to have Excel evaluate it. This works on all PC
versions of Excel. Also, in the MAC Help it says pressing F9 calculates all
sheets in all open workbooks. When I press F9 the toolbar disappear and when
my mouse is over the spreadsheet the whole thing turns transparent blue and
the words "Lesson15.xls" appear at the center of the screen. When I
highlight part of a formula and press F9 same problem.

Any suggestions or comments?

It sure sounds like you have something trapping the key. Is lesson15.xls
part of some kind of course? Does that "fool" with the keys. Normally, F9
works fine in the formula bar with part of a formula highlighted. I use it
all the time.

lesson15 will be the name of the spreadsheet. Think 'Exposé'.

The system has hijacked F9.

Shane,
Try System Preferences > Keyboard and Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts

uncheck the key combination for which you don't want the default
shortcut

Hi jpdphd,

That did it, thanks very much! Does this mean that on the mac every Excel
user doesn't have access to the standard (documented in the help system)
keyboard shortcuts like F9 and F10? Does every mac user need to go through
this routine of turning these system shortcuts off?
