Recalculation slow in 2004 vs v.X

Recalculation seems to be incredibly slow now that I've upgraded from
v.X to 2004.

The spreadsheet in question is about 10 x 1000 and used to be acceptably
fast (if not instant). Now however, any change takes seconds to minutes.
I've gone back to opening this spreadsheet in v.X.

The cells contains formulae like
=TREND(B$244:INDIRECT("B$"&Last_Data_Row),A$244:INDIRECT("A$"&
Last_Data_Row),A720)

(i.e., the trend from a baseline date (row 244) to 'today', where the
row containing 'today' is in a cell called Last_Data_Row).

Hi Michael,

Just out of curiosity's sake, does it go faster if you keep moving the
mouse around?

No, not by a quick stopwatch check. It might be a second slower in fact.

Hi Michael,

I can't think of any reason in particular for this behavior.

Have you tried deleting Excel 11's preferences?

-Jim

Ah, voodoo time :)

No, I hadn't, but I just did and it makes no difference. Thanks anyway.

Hi Michael,

I'm afraid all I can offer is the standard vodoo in this case. If you
try all of the vodoo then we can at least rule out the known troublemakers.

Give this link a once-over. If there is something here you haven't
already tried, then give it a shot.

Thanks, I'll look into it. I've already done most of that, and since
it's just 2004 being slower than v.X I'm not sure that it is
installation related. I'll check the problem file against another 2004
installation when I can. Meanwhile reverting to Excel v.X for those
files detours the problem.
