Receipts "looping"

Problem with Outlook 2003. POP Mail
Setting originally to automatically send receitps when requested by sender.

Outlook keeps reporting that there are a number of messages being sent when
there is nothing in the Outbox, and no mail has been sent.
I am making the assumption that the problem is with receipts.

Messages being sent normally are going out and new messages are being
received.

However the "phantom" messages are being sent slowly and will cause the
general operation of Outlook to be very slow.

Currently it tells me sending message 2 of 14 (many hours since message 1
went)

There is no exceptional internet trafic on DSL connection. Have CA anti
virus (Internet Security with firewall) No Malware found in scans.

Is there any way to check what the outgoing messages are?
How can I delete these?

Many Thanks

Outlook has a problem in sending read receipts. It hides those new
e-mails which means you can't see them (to delete them if they get
stuck in the Outbox). A couple of tools that let you modify the
message store are:

Microsoft's Information Store Viewer

How to use OutlookSpy
http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/delete_rr.htm

Not sure why you even want to always send read receipts. You really
want to let spammers know they hit your valid e-mail address?

Hi Thanks for the response

Would the receipts be in the outbox or which folder do I look for?

ps. Re the auto receipts - not my machine helping a friend. Have since
changed.

As mentioned, Outlook hides those new outbound e-mails used to send
read receipts. You won't see them using Outlook's UI. You have to
use a tool to dig into its message store to delete those otherwise
hidden records in its PST database.
