Received mail not linked to contact...

O

Oli Wal

Hi there!
I've just been playing around setting up digital certificates on my email
accounts.
Just for kicks.
I've come across a problem though... (probably something really simple)
Here's the scenario...

I've got a pop account in Outlook.
I've got a Hotmail account in Outlook Express.
I've got contacts for the accounts in each of the programs (ie. a contact
for the OE acct in Outlook and a contact in OE for the Oulook acct.) both
associated with digital ID's.

If I create a new email in Outlook and send it to the OE acct it can be sent
ok, encrypted and signed.
If I create a new mail in OE and send it to the Outlook acct it can be sent
ok, encrypted and signed.
Both these emails are received by the other account and decrypted ok.

The problem comes where I try and reply to the email.
In Outlook, I can reply to the email from the OE acct fine and the reply
gets there ok, encrypted and signed.

BUT, in OE when I try to reply to the message from Outlook I get a message
saying...
'OE was unable to find the digital IDs for the following recipients..'
and lists the recipient.
It then lets me cancel or just send unencrypted.

I think the problem is something to do with OE not associating the received
mail with the Outlook contact in the OE address book.
It can decrypt the message ok but when encrypting to send a reply it cannot
find the ID to use.
I think Outlook searches for an ID for the email address it is sending it
to, finds it and sends ok.
But I think OE is looking for a contact in the address book with the same
name as that which it is replying to. The mail received from Outlook by OE
is not being linked to the OE contact I have for it. Rather than searching
for the email it wants a contact. So thet when replying OE cannot find the
ID to encrypt it.

I think I may have rambled a bit there, hard to explain.
Any help on this is very much appreciated. Please ask if any queries.

Thanks,
Oli Wal
