Receiving duplicate emails/incomplete emails in INBOX

I've been having trouble more often lately receiving duplicate emails
in my INBOX. I get 2 copies of the email listed, only one is a
complete message download, and when I delete it later it does not
leave my INBOX. It will not allow me to download the rest of the
email and I can't seem to "clean up" my INBOX of these duplicate
messages. Any ideas? I have an IMAP account, connected to my
university email server. These duplicate messages do not appear when
looking at my web browser based school site. Thanks for your input.
