receiving RTF - Rich Text Format

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Email Client: pop

People with PCs send me emails with RTFs in them or attached which appear as winmail.dat that I can't open - I think they're always pictures. Why can't I open them when I'm using Outlook Express thru my server embarqmail.com? I was used to the Outlook Express format when I had a PC.

And sometimes, the pix don't show up in the email, just a set of brackets [], but jpgs in the attachments but when I go to forward them, the attachments disappear?

I'm totally befuddled - please help!

Hi Terry
People with PCs send me emails with RTFs in them or attached which appear as
winmail.dat that I can't open - I think they're always pictures. Why can't I
open them when I'm using Outlook Express thru my server embarqmail.com? I was
used to the Outlook Express format when I had a PC.

Entourage can't open the winmail.dat files, but you can use a free
application for this. The software is called "TNEF's Enough", and you can
find it here: <http://www.joshjacob.com/macdev/tnef/>

To avoid having to use this application over and over again, ask your
correspondents to use either HTML or plain text as the default e-mail format
for any e-mail sent to you. They can make Outlook do this automatically
through an option in the Outlook contact list.
And sometimes, the pix don't show up in the email, just a set of brackets [],
but jpgs in the attachments but when I go to forward them, the attachments
disappear?

We will need more details to help you on this one; are the pictures actually
attached, or are they simply linked to, i.e. are they somewhere on the web?
