Recent Documents List

I have a copy of Office 2007 Standard running on XP/SP2. Overall, it
seems to be a great version. There was an extremely steep learning
curve to the new menu system, but after nearly a year using it, I now
find it difficult to go back to the old menus. I guess it all depends
on what you are used to.

I do have one problem. In word, excel, & powerpoint (options), I have
the recent documents list set to 30. Its personal preference & seems
to work for me. EXCEPT, about once a month (approx), the entire
recent document list disappears & I start over. This is quite
annoying. It just happened today (March 1) when I started excel for
the first time.

Any suggestions?

Do you have an antivirus or malware search program that you run to scan your
computer? If so this program is probably automatically deleting the recent
document's list and you will need to go into the program's controls and set
the preferences so it doesn't delete the recent documents list. AdAware is
one of the programs that can be enabled to delete the list and there are
many others.

Hope this helps, let us know.

I have Webroot SpySweeper to take care of various malware & McAfee for
anti virus. I checked the options settings in both and didn't see
anything that looked like it might be the recent file list in office.
SpySweeper has an options setting to quarantine instead of delete. I'm
setup to use that. This doesn't mean there are no options in either
SpySweeper or McAfee to delete Office's Recent File list, just that I
can't find any.

Another thought came to mind. There are several directories that
collect junk on my PC. They are C:\Windows\Temp and C:\Documents and
Settings\User\Local Settings\Temp. I don't know where office stores
the recent file list. Is it possible that it might be in either of
these 2 directories? There are settings in FireFox & IE (I think)
that do garbage deletion. I'm thinking that the browsers may consider
these two directories as garbage & delete the contents. Possible
problem cause?
