recent patches have caused security alerts - WINIO & SISPORT

Hi,
Anyone help?
The recent security patches have coincided with my Zonealarm security
producing alerts about:
a) htpatch.exe - affects WINIO; and

b) SiSUSBrg.exe - removing driver or service from SISPORT

When I look at the deatils of these files, they do not appear to have
anything to do with Microsoft. Are they as a result of the patches, or are
they something else (virus, trojan, whatever?). Is it safe to allow these to
operate, or should I keep denying them?

I have no idea why you thought a newsgroup about Microsoft Word was
the appropriate place for this question, but...

In all cases like this, Google should be your first stop. It found the
following information instantly.

According to
http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/htpatch.exe.html and several
similar pages, ""htpatch.exe" is a component for SiS AGP patch, which
is seems to be useful only when the processor supports
HyperThreading."

Similarly, http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/sisusbrg.exe.html
says "SiS USB Registry Patch File - fixes the undetectable problem
with SiS USB controller on Windows XP" and "Installed with the SIS
chipset drivers. Not dangerous, never attempts to send info over
internet. Still you may want to remove it from startup and check that
all your USB device still function correctly."

To summarize, if you have a video card from Silicon Integrated
Systems, that's where the patches came from, not Microsoft. The
patches may or may not be useful, but aren't harmful.
