Recently Opened Programs Bug

Problem
There is a problem with some short cuts in the list of shortcuts in
‘Recently Opened Programs’ in Windows Vista’s Start Menu.
Some of these Shortcuts wont open, all Microsoft Office shortcuts don’t
work. When I click on them I get no response, nothing happens.

Observations
When I look at the properties of the shortcuts that don’t open I notice that
the target field is uneditable and only contains the programs name, the ‘open
file location’ and ‘change icon’ option are also unavailable.
It still appears to be a .lnk file.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium (updated from XP Media Center
Edition).

I have FrontPage 2003 and Office 2007.

Is there a hotfix or other solution for this bug?

Is this a Vista issue? These items work in Windows XP. Maybe check with
the folks in the Vista groups and see if it is common problem?

I would say it is more of a Vista issue but also relevant to Office. I have
asked in the Vista forum and there are many others with the same problem.

Does this apply to programs other than Office? Yes or No? If the
shortcut gets hosed regardless of whether or not it's an Office program,
then it would be a Vista problem. If only Office shortcuts get broken,
then you have an issue between Office and Vista. Please review the
symptoms, and then pursue the question in appropriate group.

I thing it applies to all programs that use this type of shortcut but I don't
know of any other software that does.

Office 2007 & 2003 dont use standard shortcuts. You will see this if you
right click on a shortcut of an Office application and look at its properties.

I have not had problem with these type of short cuts when i run them from
another location such as the desktop and the "all Programs" list in the start
menu.

I have cleared the "recently opened programs list, that doesn't work, the
shortcuts aren't broken. This is a bug. perhaps there is a registry entry
missing or damaged that allows this to work from this location, I don't know.

My guess is that this is a Vista fault, but it is worth letting the Office
community know about it, perhaps there might be a fix made soon.

When i click the short cuts there is system activity (the light on the PC
flashes), but no error report/messages and nothing happens.
