I'm running Office 2007 Pro on Windows X
home. The option to set the number
of recently used files to display is grayed out in all programs and th
note
says that this option is disabled due to group policy set b
administrator. I
can't find anywhere what to do about this. Can anyone help me
I found in forum that somebody solved the problem but did't post th
solution

Is this a corporate or home installation?

Who installed the operating system? Did you ever have this option? If you go to Word's Options under Display, is this where the option is grayed out? If you go to the Add-in option, do you see anything that does not belong? How about under COM add-ins?

Sorry - I don't open URLs from news groups. If you can articulate what is happening as well as answer the rest of my questions (who installed the system, etc.) it would help.

Do you have TweakUI installed from Windows Power Toys? If yes, there is a setting there that will cause this phenomenon to happen. I forget exactly which one it is but it is about displaying your documents. It may be in the Main Explorer dialog about clearing your documents on exit - play around in there to see what works for you.

No. I haven't TweakUI installed. I have TuneUp Utilities 2007 and Supe
AD Blocker installed but I can't see any dependency. I used Advance
Registry Fix and Advanced Registry Optimizer lately. Perhaps afte
registry optimization some keys in registry have been deleted
But I don't know which key in registry if any is responsible for suc
behaviour
Generally I was convinced that group policy rules work only in Win X
Prof version
Thanks Jerz

Registry tune-ups and cleaners are generally more trouble that help. You may have undone something that is affectly your MRU. Did they create a backup of deleted keys?

No. I haven't got backup. I noticed that the problem with recently use
files occured much later than the work done by these utilities
Nevertheless I was quite sure that after reinstalling Office 2007 th
lost keys in registry should be recovered. In my opinion the erro
message that group policy is responsible for this problem isn't true
Still I can't understand if there is any possibility to find the key i
Win XP registry responsible for this problem
Of course I can work with this error in Office 2007 or return to Offic
2003 where such error doesn't exist
Thanks for your help

At last I solved the problem. I used Advanced System Optimizer. Optio
Windows Optimizer/MS Office Option. I marked box "Automatically Displa
Most Recently Used (MRU) Font List" applied change and after rebootin
list of recently used files in all Office 2007 programs was displayed
Thanks
Jerz
