Recently Used File List

I'd like to display and use the "recently used file list"
but that option is not available to me (grayed out) on
the [Tools - Options - General] menu selection. What am
I doing wrong?

Most likely you've used TweakUI or a similar utility to set Windows not to
show Documents on the Start menu, which also affects the MRU list in Word.
