Recently Used Files List

Under the General tab in the options menu, the option that
says "Recently used files list" is grayed out or not
selectable. Does anyone know how I go about correcting
this?

Which program (Word, Excel, etc.)? Which version (97, 2000, XP)? What
operating system (Windows 98, 2000, XP, etc.)?
