Recieving .bin files

D

Dorthe

Very often I recieve office files with an extension like
doc.bin / or .xls.bin etc.
When I try open theese files , I can´t open them.
I found out that the sender sents the files from a MAC -
could that be a problem ?
I tried to copy the file - save it with a new name - but
nothing seems to help .
Hope somebody can help me..

..bin typically denotes a binary format, but that could be anything from a
bitmap to an executable. However, in the Unix world I believe these would
definitely be executables, so maybe the sender is running OSX on a Mac.

Have you asked the sender what these are? I wouldn't mess with ANY file if
I didn't know it's nature and intended use.
