at our office we use microsoft outlook, and for the past week or so it has
been taking a long time for me to recieve my emails. I need to know how to
change how often my messages are automatically recieved. I deal with
maintinace emergencies on a daily basis and many people cannot call me, but
rather email me so I can take care of their floods etc. while they are at
work. Can anyone help??

Depends on your version of Outlook and possibly on the type of connection
(pop,imap,exchange)
If this has only recently occured, and assuming settings havent been
altered, then there maybe other reasons for delays not connected with
Outlook

Menu navigation may differ in different version of Outlook. You never
mentioned WHICH version of Outlook that you use.

In Outlook 2002:

Tools -> Send and Receive Settings -> Define Send/Receive Groups

This is the polling scheme. Works with POP, SMTP, and Exchange. You
never mentioned if Exchange was involved (i.e., your mail server). The
cached Exchange mode in Outlook supposedly will notify of new messages
in your mailbox about as soon as they arrive (UDP packets are sent out
rather than waiting for a mail poll by the client); see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/870926.
