Recipients prompted to save a custom message after reading

When recipients of my custom message form try to close
the message after reading it, they are asked whether they
want to save changes.

Any suggestions of how to stop this happening please?

Sounds like something in your form -- code or a formula, perhaps -- is setting a property value when the item opens. A little code in CustomPropertyChange and PropertyChange should tell you which property.
