Recommend access for a registry

Hi I am totally new to access and will be teaching myself however before I do
that I would like to know if Access is what would be the best to use. I have
a friend who started registry of animals where she inputs all of the
information regarding the animal and its' owner etc etc. Right now she is
using word and it looked ver tedious I know there is a way to build a
database as such where she could go in and just type in the information by
fields, also add drop down menus for the type of animal and so many other
information where she doesn't have to reenter the same infor all of the time.
My question is this... will Access allow me to build something like that for
her and if not what would you recommend. I hope I explained my self and
wasn't to confusing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Access (once you climb the non-negligible learning curve) is
excellently suited for this purpose. Just for example, I'm currently
working with the Los Angeles SPCA and SEAACA (the Southeast Area
Animal Control Agency in Los Angeles County) maintaining two Access
databases of all the animals those agencies encounter. The
animal-ownership and animal data features are an integral (but
relatively small) part of this database.

Microsoft has a number of templates available, some of which may be able to
be modified for your application. This is the link to the Access templates.
Also, when you start a new database, there are templates available on your
computer, which include Asset Tracking and Inventory Control. This could be
a way to get something going while you are learning the subtleties of
database programming.
