record a video from the web?

Jon

I'm taking classes online at school. All of the lectures are stored on a web
page in wmv format. This is not streaming video, they can be downloaded or
simply opened (which I assume downloads it to a temp folder). I want to
record this video into OneNote and take notes at the same time, just as if I
was using a camera, meaning I still want the "bouncing ball" linked with the
video. I do NOT want to just paste the wmv into one note as a link or an
object. I want it rerecorded with onenote. How can I set this up? Do I
need an addon or something?

thanks,
Jon

Hi Jon,

I can't think of any way to do this with OneNote 2003 or 2007. Maybe anyone
else has an idea?

I'm looking for "virtual camera" software at the moment. But, I can hardly
imagine that I am the only person trying to do this. This is a native file
format for windows, wmv. All I want to do is substitute a link for a camera,
or the output of windows media player for a camera. I'm not a big critic of
microsoft, but this just seems like a no brainer. OneNote is marketed to
students. This is an obvious use of OneNote. Classes on the web are a
growing phenomenon. I think around 6 of my degree required courses are given
ONLY via the web.

Anyway, thanks for the responses. If anybody comes up with anything, I'd be
glad to hear it.

thanks,
jon

sure. http://www.soundmorning.com/ It's shareware, $29.95 to buy. But I
may even be able to get by with only the demo version. I'll have to do more
testing to be sure.

This doesn't change my opinion that this capability should be build into
OneNote. but atleast I found a work around.

yeah, buyer beware. I've seen a number of complaints about earlier versions
of this software, but it seems to do what I need it to. I may be able to get
by with the demo version. It turns black and white after 30 seconds, and it
has a watermark logo in the corner. For my purposes, those are irrelevant.
So, unless it has a time limit or some other limit I'm unaware of , then I
won't even need to buy it.

Additionally, I'm not actually recording from the web. I had to download
it, then play it. A tricky proposition with some protected files, but I did
file a free stream recorder as well. Before somebody asks me for a link,
here it is: http://sdp.ppona.com/ It will record files streamed with the
proprietary microsoft mms protocol.

cheers,
jon

Little update, that virtual camera software seems to suck. It worked for me
at first, but now it only show 1/4 of the video and won't zoom out. It seems
to still have quite a few bugs in it and needs further development. I did
find another one though. http://www.e2esoft.cn/index_en.asp I've only just
tried it, but it seems to work fine. good luck

Yeah the programmer needs to do alot of work to it... but I wonder if the
stable version works? Which I can only assume does.
I've sent some emails to the guy about some bugs, Havent heard much
recently, but I have had one responce.
