record locking

Charlie

I have an attendance database. Different people on a lan
access it. Everyone now and then I see a RECORD LOCKING
FILE appear in the director. I don't believe that the
people are going to after the same recods.

What causes a RECORD LOCK situlation? How can we AVOIDED
them in the future? What does the data in the record
locking file tell me?

Thanks.

Hi Charlie

When you open an Access database file for shared access (as opposed to
exclusive), a record locking (LDB) file is always created. This file keeps
track of which users are editing which records, so that you don't get two
people changing the same data at the same time. It happens even if there is
only one user with the database open.
