record selector

My record selector which is found at the far left of a record has a circle
with a line through it. It is usually a pencil indicating edit of record or
bold arrow pointing to record. What does a circle with a line through it
mean?

It means that the record is locked for editing purposes. You cannot
and will NOT be able to make changes to the record.

Reasons can be multiple, but we need more information to hazard a
guess as to why.
