Recorded Sound vs. Narration

My audio recordings using Narration are hammered with static, but very clean
using Insert -> Sound -> Record Sound. When I do this, the sound appears on
the slide as a speaker icon. Is there any way to convert that object to a
wav file so it can be embedded and used to automatically run during a slide
show?
