Recording a macro

Just a thought, but check your security levels to ensure
they are high enough to enable you to run Macros.

Tools > Options > Security > Macro Security

I am extremely Excel illiterate. I am trying to build a

spreadsheet with a macro that serves to transition data
from one worksheet to another once a particular cell is
populated. i.e. To track tickets by the date they were
closed. One sheet will carry the data until cell G5, for
example, is populated with a "closed date". Then we'll
run the macro and have that entire line transition from
the worksheet it's currently on to a different worksheet
in the same workbook.

I click Tools>Macro>Record a New Marcro and then enter

the required info. However, when I try to record the
macro, I am getting the error message "Unable to Record"
repeatedly. The recording function never even starts.
I'm so illiterate I don't even know if I'm doing something
wrong. Please help.

Thank you for the suggestion. In my fumblings I actually did stumble across that and tried it with no luck.

Can you possibly suggest anything else?

That's a bit misleading, because set at High, you can't do anything with macros.
Set the security level to Medium.

Also hit Alt+F11 to get to the Visual Basic Editor, make sure that the
recorder buttons are all dark, press the square one like the stop on your
VHS recorder (the tooltip label is "reset").
