I'm using Office XP on WinXP. Whenever I use 'Tools/Macros/Record New
Macro', my cursor arrow changes to an arrow with a picture of a cassette
tape attached to it. I then can't select any text in the document and do
anything with it, such as selecting a TOC and updating it. How do I change
this so that I can select text while recording a macro.

From Word Help: Record a macro in Word:
==========
6. Perform the actions you want to include in your macro.

You can use the mouse to click commands and options, but the macro
recorder cannot record mouse actions in a document window. To move the
insertion point or select, copy, or move text, for example, you must
use shortcut keys.
