Recording problems

when I record audio on onenote I have trouble hearing the playback. Is there
a way to get it louder? I have turned my volume all the way up. I tried using
an external mike to record but when I tried to play it back I could hear
nothing at all. What can I do?

How do things work when recording with some other app, the good old
"Audio Recorder, f.e."?
