Recover a Save-As mistake

Hi there,

I don't think there is much help in this situation, but just incase...

I need to know if there is a way to recover a file after doing a "save as" on top of it.

Here is what happened:

loaded a:\business.xsl

Should have "save as" c:\my documents\business.xsl

but instead did a

"save as" c:\my documents\personal.xsl

OOPS!

Is there anyway to recover c:\my documents\personal.xsl?

Thanks!

Not even close to being an expert, but;
(assume you mean ".XLS" vs. "XSL")
Did you get a warning with the "save as"? if not then your
"Personal.xls" should be there, by "there" I mean that usually (in my
limited experience) the "personal.xls" is located in the "XLSTART"
folder.
If that is the case do a search for "personal.xls" and it should show
two files.

(BTW - it's not a good idea to open (or save, for that matter) to an
floppy/CD).

You get your original data back only if you have a backup of the original
file.

You may have a backup if you are on a server and mass backups are regularly
made.

Look for any *.XLK files. If you have set options to always create a backup,
there could be a copy of the original saved as an *.XLK.

Are you running Norton Utilities Protected Recycle Bin? You should be able to
get an earlier version using Norton Unerase feature.

Otherwise...........out of luck, but much wiser......right?
