Recovered Folder 8082 in Outlook 2000

Outlook pst file was corrupted due to pwer failure. I ran scanpst.exe to
repair the file. When I open Outlook and click on Inbox shortcut icon it
opens to Recovered Folder 8082. When viewing Outlook personal folders the
Inbox folder has changed to Recovered Folder 8082 with a sub Folder called
Recovered Folder 8082. The Inbox shortcut icon path is to the the sub folder
with my e-mail messages in this folder. How do I correct so that when I click
the Inbox shortcut icon the path is to my e-mail messages in the folder
called Inbox?

Assuming you mean the shortcut on the outlook bar, delete it and drag the
inbox to the outlook bar.

Diane thank you for your response. I can not drag the folder Recovered Folder

The Recovered Folder 8082 has a sub folder called Recovered Folder 8082. This
sub folder has all of my incoming mail. I need to make this sub folder a main
folder, rename it Inbox and then move it to the outlook bar, but can not
figure out how to do this. Sorry for repeating myself.

Sounds like you need to create a new PST, make it your delivery location,
then copy the data in the damaged PST to the new one.

Thanks Brian for your response. The Outlook.pst file I am now using is was
repaired and fix by scanpst.exe. This repaired file is what caused the
problem I am now having. The scanpst.exe removed the Inbox folder in personal
folders and placed the folder Recovered Folder 8082 with the sub folder
Recovered Folder 8082. When I click on the Inbox shortcut it goes to the sub
folder. If I look at the prooerties for the Inbox shortcut tne name given for
the folder is Recovered Folder 8082. I can not change the name. When I right
click on the name it says I need appropiate permission to change the name of
a public folder. My computer is not on a server. I do not know how to grant
myself permission to change the name. Where is the instruction given in
windows that tell the Inbox shortcut to go to this subfolder? Is it in the
registry, if so where? I can move all of of my incoming email messages to the
main folder, but the Inbox shortcut wants to go to the sub folder. I can
rename the main folder to Inbox, but I am afaid if I permantly delete the sub
folder I will be doomed. I thought about uninstalling Outllok 2000, but the
Microsoft Office premium disk will only let me reinstall all of office and
then this will will cause me to loose other valued information. Any
suggestions?

I'm aware of that. However, the pointers and folder names in the repaired
PST seem irretrievably broken. Obviously you want correct folder names, so
I'm suggesting what I believe is the most expedient way pf achieving that.
Create a new PST, make it your deliverty location, stop and restart Outlook,
and then move the data from the "Recovered Folder 8082", subfolder ,which
has obviously been tagged the inbox folder, to your newly created, working,
and properly named Inbox.

I thought about uninstalling Outllok 2000, but the Microsoft Office
premium disk will only let me reinstall all of office and then this
will will cause me to loose other valued information.

You should eb able to uninstall only Outlook, but that wouldn't help anyway
because the problem is within the PST and, possibly, the registry.

I may have slanted toward Outlook 2003 my response to this message. If I

By the way, I don't recall reading whether you're using Outlook 2000 in
Corporate/Workgroup mode or Internet Mail Only mode. The second line of

Ok Brian I have created a new .pst file as instructed , but now I have
another problem. When I go to personal folders I have duplicate personal
folders(problem with recovered foler 8082 fixed) . I am using Windows XP Pro

After you've copied the data from the repaired PST to the new one you added,
remove the repaired PST by right-clicking its root and choosing Close.
That's all you need to do.

That means that you did not make the new folder your delivery location. The
link I posted earlier contains those instructions as well.

When I now try to close the Personal Folder21 which is the duplitae folder I
get a window saying "The operation failed. An object cound not be found."
When I click properties for this folder and click the advance tab I get the
same message.

New mail profile time.

Brian,
I have uninstalled Outlook now and still have basically the same problem.
Any suggestions? How can I completely uninstall Outlook so that I can do a
clean install? The uninstall information by Microsoft Office Assistance does
not do a complete uninstall including registry entries. Registry Mechanic
will not clean up the registry either.

Why do you trhink you need to uninstall? Creating a new mail profile does
not require uninstalling. Just reinstall it and create a new mail profile
in Control Panel's Mail applet.

Any suggestions? How can I completely uninstall Outlook so
that I can do a clean install?

Remove the Outlook references in the registry, as well as the mail profile
references. The latter are in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WIndows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
Messaging Subsystem\Profiles

However, There's really no need. A new mail profile is a better choice.
