Recovering a corrupted file --- how other than Help suggestions?

I have a Word.doc file that will not open. I've tried all the file recovery
and repair suggestions from the Help search. Nothing seems to work. I put a
lot of work into the file and really don't want to have to rewrite it. Any
suggestions?

something similar happened to me a few weeks ago after staying up all night
working on a document. I tried everything - in the end, I tried opening the
file with WordPad - sure enough, it opened. I lost some formatting and some
of the pictures within it - but it was better than losing it all!
