Recovering A Letter Being Worked On When PC Hung Up: How ?

Hello:

Not very sharp with this stuff.

Am using MS Word 2002, and XP.

Was composing a letter, and the PC totally hung up.
Had to re-start it.

I heard that Word automatically keeps a backup of work in progress, and that
there is also
possibly a Recovery scheme for situations like this.

Where should I go, and how do I, see if there is possibly
any way of getting back what I apparently lost when shutting down ?
